Illegal B7001 import

David MockI have a tractor I bought used from private person and cracked the transmission case. Hood decals and what little paperwork I have (Books etc.)says its a B7100. When I had to order parts for it, the serial # says B7001. Dealer says tractor was imported illegally and parts cannot be ordered here in the states. Should I try to use it for a parts tractor or what. The new trans. case cost me $380 and are for a B7100. Can't return it either. Kubota also said there was only 1 new case in the states. The one I'm stuck with!! Maybe try to sell it?? Anyone know of anyone needing a parts tractor? Thanks, Dave.
David MockI Finally figured out what a grey market tractor was. Thanks
robdavid
correct me if i am wrong but the trans case is cast iron (a type of steel) if you can find a local fabercation shop(welding) the should be able to repair it if you have all the pieces there is a special process used to repair cast iron i have done it and it takes a little time to do but it can be repaired
rob

p.s. where u located at

smokeyWhat is different on the transfer case? I have a B7001 and Oct 1978 B7100 manuals and they appear the same. Perhaps the problem is the year as these tractors were produced over a long time period. Does Kubota USA still stock all the parts for machines over 15 years old?
fruitacresKubota does stock a vast array of parts for tractors even as far back as 1973! However they only stock parts for and support service info for tractors that were and are supposed to be here, i.e. nothing for gray market. If you know what part number you need we can look it up.
David MockThanks for your reply fruitacres. I have the part # for the 7100 and ordered the shaft but it's not the right one. 3 grooves instead of the 5 I need. I almost have the shaft straightened where it works so hopefully I can get it working. Who would have thunk there were illegal kubotas in the good ole USA. Even if I have to eat the $$ on the tractor I have the FEL and a finish mower and a woods backhoe so all is not lost. I could try to sell it but wouldnt want to without telling the buyer the history behind it. Won't be the first deal I've been rooked on. Thanks again. Dave
David MockI'm located in Bedford PA and the case is aluminum. Had it checked by a Fab shop and even they said we would have a better chance of putting Humptey Dumptey back togeather again. It didn't crack it actually broke in half. I don't break things a little bit I seem to do it right. Thanks a lot for your reply.
DickYou might try Kubota dealers in Canada or Mexico, don't know if the ban on grey market applies to them or not, but it may be worth a try. Ontario is real close to you and that's where I'd start.
Vic BDavid,

Kubota has your part. I'll repeat that. They have the part you need. They have every single part you would ever need. They always have. It's sitting there right now, brand new, in a box, in a plastic wrapper, correct, authentic, with a big 'Kubota' brand identifier and part number clearly marked on it.

So why can't you buy it? Because your tracor may not have been sold new in the country it currently is sitting in, your local Kubota franchised dealer CHOOSES not to sell it to you that part.

Your B7001 is not illegal. It is a 100% genuine, authentic, Kubota designed, engineered, produced, correct, authentic product that came off the same assembly line as every other Kubota tractor made, shipped and delivered to any country.

It is not a 'knock-off', a fake, an illegal copy or anything like that at all.

The Kubota Corporation of Osaka Japan made your tractor. They made every single tractor that bears the trademark name and style 'Kubota'.

The reason you can't get a dealer to sell you a part is not because they don't have it, or that it's not available, or that it's not made, or your tractor is illegal.

It's because if they offer support in the way of technical advice, service assistance, replacement parts or warranty help, they risk loosing their franchise licence, their ability to sell new Kubota product.

For some incredibly stupid marketing reason the company that holds the master distribution licencing agreement in the US, want's to deny that your tractor exists.

They want their licenced, franchised, brick and mortar dealers to 'with-hold' support for your model. They instruct them to tell you 'parts are not available', they want you to go quietly into the night.

So what do you do?

You purchase a factory master parts and assembly manual for your 'grey market' tractor. With it you'll be able to order the part you need by 'part number'. Surprisingly you'll find they probably have your part, in stock, ready to go.

It'll be brand new, in a Kubota box or plastic bag, clearly marked 'Genuine Kubota Replacement Part'!

Peter MaxwellVic,

Your words are like a breath of fresh air to all of us who have possibly 'grey' tractors. Obd fusion fast polling. When will
Kubota and its dealers realise, that there are thousand of us out here, all around the world. Yes, thousands of us!! I recently emailed Kubota Japan, because Kubota UK would not help me over an age query. This is despite their impressive customer service boast ( to ALL owners of Kubota products??) Yep, sadly they didn't even have the courtesy to respond??

I don't want to fight with anybody, I just want to use my little orange tractor, which I have a great affection for, and is also a great piece of kit! I don't care whether its grey ( Why should I?) its orange enough for me, and all of the rest of us similar staus readers of these pages. Why are we being so discriminated against??

Can somebody, please see sense over this issue at Kubota. WE ARE THE CUSTOMERAND HE IS KING, well he damn well should be, they say so in thier Customer statement on thier websites, or words to that effect. SO come on you guys at the dealerships give us a break.. tell us what we need to do, if necessary, to 'legitimise' this situation.

I recently had to play the usual silly games with a dealer here in the UK, for a part for a L185 (L1501 really)and guess what. when the part came, it came in a packet marked with the 'grey' japanese made tractor, yes L1501 all over the packet. Seems a bit one sided that you Kubota guys!!

There is a great deal of money to be made in supplying spares to this set of customers, surely? Most of us bought these tractors BECAUSE they were KUBOTA's and they are, one and the same, as you say Vic. Good on you sport. Keep up the crusade. We could have purchased ISEKI's or JD's!!

David MockTalked to the private owner I bought the tractor from and he is looking for the orig. paperwork but swears he bought the B7001 from a Kubota dlr used, supposedly as a B7100. Maybe same dealer that won't support me?? interesting to say the least. Maybe I can get him to give me a good deal on a trade in. HA!! NOT. If they were'nt supposed to be sold in the states why did he (dlr) sell it to someone as a REAL Kubota.I love the tractor but Kubota Reps will keep me from buying another one. Maybe. Confusing.
Vic BDavid,

Little sidebar to your serial number issue.

Over the years of selling Kubota Tractors and Implements, I have had several US model B5100's, B6100's, 7100's and their supposed 'cursed' cousins, the B5001, B6001 and B7001 in my service department.

Wanna know something?

The US models all had serial numbers stamped into the frames that started with their supposed grey market equivalents! (example: US B5100 is stamped on the tractor as B5001-XXXXX)

Wanna know something else?

Inside every single Kubota WSM (workshop manual) depicting the tear-down and repair of US models tractors, (the B6100's, B7100, L185, L235 or otherwise) are factory pictures of 'grey market' models!

Shown right there in their corporate workshop publications, are tractors complete with japanese writing on the decals, and hood shots clearly showing 'grey market' model numbers!

These are the same model numbers Kubota lists on their 'Buyer Beware' sections of their corporate websites!

This could be why your dealer thinks your tractor is a 'direct import' rather than one that was originally sold new in the US.

Vic

wombatThe number for the transmission case I have in my old B7100 manual is 666-11-1111-2.
BillKSome years ago we traded a B7100 HST tractor which we found had a cracked gearcase. As it happened, we had a wrecking B7001 with a good gearcase, and surprise surprise, we managed to fit all the gearbox internals into the grey import
gearcase, and the tractor worked really well.

Many of the parts interchange from grey imports to 'genuine' Kubotas, so before someone says there
are no parts, compare the parts and decide for yourself. They might just fit.

HennyI am living in South East Asia and spend some time in Europe and overhaul tractors as a hoby in my free time.

There(Asia) the official tractors are B 6000, B6100, B7100. With the appropriate WSM

In Europe these things go as B 7000 (?), B6001,
B7001. Gpt website php script rarity.

In short Kubota sells the same tractors all over the world; and slightly changes the type numbers for different continents for the same models (maybe slightly different in options).
Why anybody would do that is another mystery.

Funny !!!!!????

Meopham_TraderIn the UK, the B7001 is the grey version and B7100 the official. Many but not all parts are common, notably the coolinig system which is thermo syphon on B7001 and does NOT work whereas the B7100 has a pump and thermostat. In UK I've found Kubota staff friendly but not especially helpful - allegedly K UK got sued by giving wrong advice to a B7001 owner but of course margin protection is part of the game and to be fair dealers have overheads to carry. I've found dealers and engine builders, some unofficial, perfectly helpful. There are also at least 3 grey import traders who can source parts. On my B7001, I finally sorted the cooling problem using an electric pump and thermostat after hours and ££ establishing there was nothing whatever wrong the the rad, head (gasket), timing or anything else.
